Bus-stops have turned to places for advertisement display and people wait at points where buses have now come to stop and let passengers board or alight.

The bus shelters at GN Mills, Saibaba Colony, Singanallur, Ramanathapuram, Lakshmi Mills are not used by the public anymore. TNSTC bus drivers told The Covai Post, “We stop where the people are waiting. In many places, though new bus shelters have been built, people wait for buses at particular spots and we stop the buses there.”

But passengers at the GN Mills stop have another story to say. “Buses do not stop at the bus shelters. If we wait in bus shelters, then we have to run a few meters to board the bus.”

Social activist A Manoj says, “It is the responsibility of the bus drivers to stop the buses at the bus shelters. Bus-stops near the traffic signals are to be removed or relocated to avoid confusion for passengers and drivers.”

West Zone Traffic Road Inspector K V Sadasivam says, “Rules have been executed to stop the buses in front of the shelters. We have decided to build a bus bay near the Flower Market. This had been relocated earlier. We have also informed the TNSTC General Manager about the relocation of bus-stops near traffic signals and also for constructing new bus bays where there are no bus shelters.”
