23 ladies from Coimbatore came together and formed the Coimbatore Acme Ladies Circle 85 in the year 2002. Some of them are homemakers, some work part time; some are employed full-time, and others run their own businesses. But all of them work towards one common cause – to help the weaker sections of the society. One such project is to educate to enlighten. “The members of the club come together and fund our various projects. When we are short of funds, we approach various corporate houses in the city to support us,” Shalaka Vora, Chairperson of Coimbatore Acme Ladies Circle 85, says.
In order to raise funds for one of their ongoing projects, which involves the construction of five bathrooms and six toilet blocks for Seva Nilayam in Thondamuthur, the Coimbatore Acme Ladies Circle 85 is selling gift hampers for Diwali. The gift hamper contains goodies like fruit biscuits, fruit rolls, sizzling herbs, Karachi biscuits from Hyderabad, candles, chocolate-coated Oreo biscuits, rose mints, crushers, and danglers all neatly packed in an eco-friendly basket. The cost of each basket is Rs.1000. funds raised from selling the baskets will be used for their Seva Nilayam project. “The entire project will cost us Rs.3 lakhs. We hope to raise Rs.1.5 lakhs through sales of our Diwali hampers. We are also looking for corporate establishments who can support this project,” Shalaka says.
