DMK MLA files anticipatory bail plea in gutka case

Coimbatore : With police on the lookout in connection with the protest against the gutka issue, DMK Singanallur MLA, N Karthik, today moved an anticipatory bail petition in the district court.

Police registered cases against 10 DMK functionaries, including Karthik, for obstructing police officials from carrying out their duty while raiding an illegal gutka manufacturing unit in Kannampalayam on April 27.

While seven persons were arrested and remanded in custody for 15 days, police were on the look out for Karthik, Rangaraj and Sundaram.

Apprehending arrest, Karthik and Rangaraj filed a petition in the court seeking anticipatory bail, and was likely to come up for hearing tomorrow or day after, party sources said.

Meanwhile, advocates also filed petitions in Sulur magistrate court seeking bail for the seven persons arrested.
