Election Commission receives 1.7 lakh complaints

Ever since the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) came into effect, the Election Commission has received a staggering 1.70 lakh complaints of violations. The Commission has also seized more than Rs.8 crores in cash, and gifts worth lakhs of Rupees. The Election Commission has, on its part, filed more than 600 cases of MCC-violation cases.

Talking to reporters, the Chief Electoral Officer Rajesh Lakhoni said that the authorities had seized Rs.48 lakhs on Friday. In addition to cash, several bottles of liquor and gifts were seized.

The Election Commission has installed more than 35,000 surveillance cameras all over the state to keep track of the MCC violations. 428 cases have been recorded for damaging public properties. 192 cases of poll code violations have been filed by the Election Commission.
