A three-member gang, including two women, conned a woman of Rs.6 lakhs near Coimbatore by selling her a fake gold bar.

The gang members approached Usharani, who runs a hotel in Chinnipalayam, and told her that they were from Andhra Pradesh, and that they had in possession some gold bars, which, they claim, they had found while working in a field. They said that they wanted to quietly sell them away for Rs.10 lakhs and return to their village.

Usharani broke a tiny edge of the bar and confirmed herself that it was gold and bought the bar for Rs.6 lakhs. it was only when she took it to the goldsmith that she realized that the bar was made of brass and that she had been conned.

The Peelamedu police are now on the lookout for the gang.
