Free laptops given to 560 students

As many as 560 students of three schools received free laptops under the Chief Minister’s free laptop scheme here on Tuesday. Distributing the laptops, S.P. Velumani, Minister for Rural Development and Municipal Administration, said that the scheme is a dream-come-true for the students of government schools.

“Most of the students of government schools can only dream of buying a laptop. With the government issuing free laptops, the students can better utilize the technologies for education,” he said.

He said that the state government had allocated Rs.20,900 crores for the development of education in the state and added that the schemes have encouraged the students of government school to get state ranks in the 2015 board examinations. “The government is fulfilling the basic needs of the students by distributing uniforms, school bags, stationary articles, and shoes, and is helping these students get good education,” he said.

He added that the students should utilize the schemes and bring laurels to the state.246 students from the SRP Ammaniammal Government Girls Higher Secondary School, 221 students from the RS Puram Government Girls Higher Secondary School, and 93 students from the RS Puram Government Higher Secondary School were given the laptops.

Corporation Commissioner P. Vijayakarthikeyan, Deputy Commissioner P. Gandhimathy, and Deputy Mayor P. Leelavathy Unni participated in the event.
