The Hindu Munnani has urged the Coimbatore district administration to ban poojas at temples on the midnight of the New Year and on public revelries.

In a petition to District Collector Archana Patnaik, the Munnani district president K. Dasharathan said that the New Year celebrations were part of Western culture and were against the cultural and traditional values of the Tamils.

“The younger generations, in the name of celebrations, were engaged in liquor consuming, creating public nuisance, and also causing accidents by their reckless driving past midnight,” he said.
