Lawyers stage demo against amendment to Advocates Act

More than 250 advocates today staged a demonstration near the District Court Complex in Coimbatore, seeking immediate withdrawal of the amendments to the Advocates Act. They raised slogans against the Act and wanted its withdrawal.
Members of the Coimbatore Bar Association carried placards with messages like, ‘Advocate Amendment rule is Draconian rule,’ and ‘Injustice to advocates is injustice to common man.’
A large number of police personnel were deployed in and around the venue of demonstration to prevent untoward incidents.
