Senior CPI leader R. Nallakannu has stated that the State has to hang its head in shame for the increase in the number of honour killings.

Claiming that the Makkal Nala Kootani’s (People’s Welfare Front) main agenda was to eradicate honour killings, prohibition, and corruption, he added that the chances of winning for the Makkal Nala Koottani had only doubled after it joined forces with the DMDK.

“We are still Makkal Nala Koottani and are not worried about the seat sharing the parties would do as our main agenda is to eradicate the rule of the Dravidian parties in the State, which is soaked in corruption. We are still holding talks with TMC and other parties as we expect more to join the alliance,” he said.

Mr. Nallakannu who was in the city to visit the honour killing victim Kousalya at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital, said that it was indeed the police who indirectly encouraged the killers to commit such a grave crime.

“Despite several complaints from Shankar and Kousalya, the Udumalpet police did not take stern action, which led to the killers committing such a crime boldly,” he said.

Handing over a fund of Rs.30,000 to Kousalya from the Tamil Nadu Odukkapattor Vazhvurimai Iyakkam, Nallakannu urged the State Government to punish all those who were behind the incident.

Commenting on the Noiyalai Nokki initiative, he said it was essential that the river was cleared of encroachments, which was essential for the survival of the city.
