Coimbatore : In a bid to create awareness on organ donation, Makkal Neethi Maiyyam to commemorate the 67th Birthday of Dr Padma Shri Kamal Haasan organised a Marathon at Sundarapuram area in the city.

Makkal Neethi Maiyyam state secretary – propaganda Dr. Anusha Ravi and Coimbatore North District Secretary SIDCO Mr. A Siva said, “The birthday of Padma Shri Kamal Haasan was celebrated on November 7 and in continuation, Donating ones organs gives life to many .. dr Kamalhassan has donated his organs after his death for medical research in 2002 itself. We organised for an awareness Marathon on Organ Donation from Kurichi Sundarapuram on November 14th morning. Over 500 persons including Men, Women and Children took part in the marathon sporting T-shirts with the image of Kamal Haasan embossed on it.”

Coimbatore Athletic Association executives and members conducted the marathon and gave away commendation certificates and medals to the participants during the valedictory. A prize money of Rs 25,000 was given away. Meanwhile, breakfast besides biscuits, fruits and water bottles were distributed to the participants.

Only those with COVID vaccination certificates were allowed to participate in the marathon. The marathon commenced from Sundarapuram towards Kurumbapalayam pirivu and back to the starting point. The marathon was conducted under four categories Men, Women, Boys and Girl students.

The event was conducted under aegis of Makkal Neethi Maiyyam Coimbatore south district under the leadership of SIDCO Mr. A Siva along with Mr. M Mohan Raj, Kannan Seethapathy, Mr. K Vinobha, Mr. R Vijaya Kumar, Mr. J Suresh, Ms. S Samiullah Javid, Mr. Muralidharan, Mr. D Pravin, Mr. A Nagaraj, Mr. R Ragunathan besides Makkal Neethi Maiyyam secretaries and other members.
