Man gets lifer for killing brother

A district court in Tirupur on Thursday sentenced a person to undergo life imprisonment for killing his younger brother and enacting a drama that he died in an accident.

The prosecution case was that one Manoharan, a knitwear company worker took the body of his 32-year-old brother Madankumar to his house in Mangalam claiming that he had died in an accident on August 23, 2015. The family had then buried the body.

Growing suspicious about the death, Madankumar’s wife lodged a complaint, based on which the body was exhumed two days later for postmortem, which revealed that he was murdered.

Manoharan, who was taken for interrogation, told the police that he had hit his brother with a wooden log, following an argument over a property. After attacking his brother, Manoharan took him to a local hospital, from where Madankumar was shifted to the Government Hospital in Coimbatore However, Madankumar died in the ambulance on the way and the body was taken to the house.

Manoharan convinced the family members that Madankumar died in an accident.

The case was going on in the First Additional District Court and Judge M.K. Jamuna sentenced the accused to undergo life sentence for the murder.
