Man trampled to death near Mettupalayam

A lone elephant had trampled a 65-year old man to death near Mettupalayam today.
The victim, named Palani was a resident of Manarmalai village. He had gone to fetch water from a river, when the lone elephant appeared from behind and trampled him. Death was instantaneous.
The villagers informed the police who retrieved the body.
