Condemning the attack on a television cameraman by KMCH staff, more than 50 journalists from various media organisations petitioned District Collector Archana Patnaik and Police Commissioner A.K. Viswanathan to take stern action against the accused, on Wednesday.

Krishna, the camera person of Sun TV, was attacked by six staff, including a doctor of the Kovai Medical Center and Hospital on Wednesday while he went to take a video byte of a patient from the Nilgiris.

The issue triggered a response and journalists protested in front of the hospital for more than 10 hours demanding the arrest of the attackers. They dispersed after officials pacified them and assured to take action.

Since Police did not arrest the accused until evening, journalists submitted a petition to the Collector and Police Commissioner and demanded that the accused be arrested within Thursday.

A media personnel told the Covai Post that while the Collector Archana Patnaik assured that she would look into the issue, Commissioner AK Viswanathan had asked them to leave the job to the police and allow the police to work freely.
