As many as 25 members of the Nam Thamizhar Katchi were, on Thursday, arrested for protesting against the ban on Jallikattu in Coimbatore.

The Supreme Court had, on January 12, refused to lift the ban on Jallikattu creating a stir in Tamil Nadu. Protesting against the ban, member of the Nam Thamizhar Katchi staged a demonstration near the South Taluk office requesting both the state and the central governments to take necessary steps in making Jallikattu possible.

They further requested that members of all the parties should join the protest and fight to bring back the cultural sport of the state. The protesters were later detained by the police because they did not obtain prior permission for the protest.
