Nilgiri’s oldest Toda woman passes away

The oldest member of the Toda community, a 114-year old woman named Rujjammal, passed away early in the morning today due to age-related complications, at Glenmorgan, near Nilgiri district. She is survived by five daughters, and 265 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

The woman had never been to a hospital or taken any allopathic drug. Her husband, two daughters and six sons had died before her. She used to live in Pudumund with her community and relatives.
