The initiative begins tomorrow, marking a green tribute to Perur Adigalar’s centenary

To commemorate the centenary celebration of Deivathiru Perur Santhalinga Ramasamy Adigalar, fondly known as Perur Adigalar, a grand initiative titled “One Village, One Arasu Tree” will be launched on March 20 at the Perur Adheenam premises.

A press conference regarding this initiative was held today (19/03/2025) at the Coimbatore Press Club. Thavathiru Santhalinga Marudachala Adigalar of Perur Aadheenam elaborated on the significance of the project. He was joined by Tamilmaran, Coordinator of the Cauvery Calling Movement, Aruchami, Trustee of the Noyyal Foundation, and Ramanathan, President of the Coimbatore Building Contractors Association.

In Indian tradition, every aspect of spiritual experience is deeply rooted in human well-being. Trees like Peepal (Arasu), Banyan (Aal), and Neem (Vembu) hold immense spiritual and medicinal significance and have been revered in our culture for centuries.

Historically, Tamil society considered Arasu trees (Peepal) sacred, designating them as places of worship, while Aal trees (Banyan) served as spaces for community gatherings and discussions. Arasu trees have been an integral part of Tamil villages, symbolizing identity, heritage, and collective memory.

Modern scientific research now confirms the medicinal properties of the Arasu tree. Every part of the tree—its leaves, sap, roots, and bark—offers health benefits. Studies highlight its use in treating various ailments, ranging from uterine disorders in women to liver diseases.

In honour of the 24th Guru Maha Sannidhanam, Deivathiru Perur Santhalinga Ramasamy Adigalar, the “One Village, One Arasu Tree” initiative aims to plant one Peepal tree (Arasu Maram) in every village across Tamil Nadu.

This noble effort will commence on March 20 at the Perur Adheenam, with the planting of the first sapling.

With the guidance and support of the Isha Cauvery Calling Movement, the Noyyal Foundation, the Coimbatore Building Contractors Association, and Friends of Hosur Puviyin Nanbargal, the first phase of this initiative will see 2,000 Arasu trees planted across villages in Coimbatore and Krishnagiri districts.

The inauguration ceremony will be graced by the 25th Guru Maha Sannidhanam of Perur Adheenam, Shanthalinga Marudachala Adigalar, Thavathiru Siravai Aathinam, Ku. Sellamuthu, President of the Uzhavar Uzhavar Party, Ramanathan, President of the Coimbatore Building Construction and Contractors Association, Aruchamy, Trustee of the Noyyal Aaru Foundation, Vanitha Mohan, Trustee of the Siruthuli Foundation, and film actor Padava Gopi.
