City-based Sri Ramakrishna hospital today created a new Guinness World record for ‘most people to sign as organ donors in eight hours’. Over 100 home guards of Coimbatore District pledged their organs.
According to Area Commander Balaji Raju, the home guards were very forthcoming to pledge their organs and they had turned from from Pollachi and Méttupalayam for the cause, he said.
The record was created at SNR Sons College grounds between 8 AM to 4 PM with a count of 13,439 registered donors signing for pledging their organs in eight hours at a single venue.

Tamil Nadu was inching close to an organ donation rate of two per million population, which was among the best in the country and from October 2008 to January 2016, the State has transplanted a total of 2,310 major organs, including the heart, lung, liver, kidney, pancreas and small bowel and small organs such as heart valves, corneas, skin and blood vessels, the total coming up to 4,112 organs.
Staff and students from Sri Ramakrishna educational institutions, PSG Institutions, and other colleges apart from various industrial houses, NGOs and general public took part in this noble event.
All the participants will be issued a donor card from the Government of Tamil Nadu.
