Members of the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi today urged District Collector T.N. Hariharan to take action against the illegal stone quarries near Kinathukidavu in Coimbatore.

In a petition, M. Subramaniam, deputy secretary of the Coimbatore unit of the VCK, said two quarries, whose licenses expired a year ago, are still being used by private parties.

“New tenders have not been floated. But people are still using the quarry without any hindrance,” he said.

“If this continues, then Coimbatore would become the next Madurai in illegal quarrying,” Subramaniam added.
