Thanjavur: A young Nadaswaram-maker suffered grievous injuries and was hospitalized after he was roughed up by a four-member-gang. Police today arrested four persons, including a woman, in this connection. Professional rivalry is suspected to be the reason.

The 28-year-old Arul Doss, residing at Mettu Street in Reddipalayam in Thanjavur, started his own Nadaswaram-making unit after learning the nuances from 53-year-old Rajendran, of the same area, for some years. This led to a professional rivalry between the two.

Against this backdrop, a quarrel broke out between the two a few days ago. In the melee, Arul Doss sustained grievous injuries after he was reportedly attacked by Rajendran and his family. Arul Doss was admitted to the Thanjavur Medical College Hospital.

Based on a complaint from him, the Kallaperambur police registered a case and arrested Rajendran, his wife Thenmozhi (43), son Stephen (28), and worker Rueben (22) on charges of assaulting Arul Doss and causing him injuries.
