The PSG Hospitals run by PSG Sons and Charities has been approved to carry out pancreas transplants to treat Type 1 diabetes.
In a release, P R Rajkumar, Medical Director, stated that the hospital which has been doing liver transplantation has been conferred with the license to transplant pancreas.
“We are the only centre outside Chennai in Tamil Nadu where transplantation can be done,” he added.
The release further added that the transplant would prove effective and useful for patients with Type 1 diabetes as the usage of insulin would be reduced to 75 per cent.
