Residents get assurance for closure of four liquor shops after agitation

Over 500 residents, majority of them women, today took to streets in Sowripalayam seeking immediate closure of four liquor shops run by Government in the residential areas.

Holding placards on their demand, the women, accompanied with a band, marched for nearly one km on main road and raised slogans for the closure of the shops, which were creating problem in the area, police said.

They also laid siege of the shops, leading to some anxious moments.

Senior district officials rushed to the spot and discussed the issue with them and assured to take steps to close the shops, after which they dispersed, police said.
