Rs 1.22L fine slapped under anti-dengue drive

The city corporation today imposed a fine of Rs 1.22 lakh on schools, shops and commercial complexes for not clearing stagnant water which are breeding grounds for mosquitoes.

In the anti-dengue drive in five zones, officials issued to notices to these establishments, majority of them being schools and imposed penalties.

The corporation has so far imposed a fine of Rs 6.11 lakh during its drive, which began from January 2017, officials said.

In Salem, officials imposed a fine of Rs 9.35 lakh on cinema theatres and marriage halls where mosquitoes were found in water tanks, the sources said.
