Sports scholarship given to students who excelled at national level

District Collector T.N. Hariharan today gave away sports scholarship to five students who excelled at national level.

Four Taekwondo championship winners and one ball badminton championship winner received the scholarship amount given by Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu.

While the gold medalists received Rs. 6000, silver medalists and bronze medalists received Rs. 4000 and Rs. 2000 respectively.

Avantika A.S., Grade XI student of Sree Sowdeswari School, who won silver medal in under-42 category in national level championship at Haryana received the scholarship. Avantika also represented India in world championship at South Korea last year.

Sreeharan S, from the same school received Rs. 2000 for winning bronze in national championship conducted by the School Games Federation of India.

Ajay Deepak from Bharathiya Vidya Bhavan and A. Ajay from Liseux Matriculation Higher Secondary School received same amount for winning bronze in Harayana National championship in cadet under-33 and cadet under-44 category.

All four were trained by Sijukumar K.K. who runs CODISTA, a training academy here. Sijukumar is one of the five international instructors in the country certified by World Taekwondo Federation.

G. Bharathkumar from Coimbatore was awarded Rs. 6000 for winning gold medal for badminton in Inter-University National championship last year. Bharathkumar is an MCA student at Mangalore University.

The Collector advised the students to make use of the scholarship and improve their sporting talent.
