The two-day World Honey Bee day celebrations would begin on August 18 at the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University.

According to sources, the aim of the celebrations was to create an awareness on honey bees and their importance in the ecosystem and biodiversity.

Progressive beekeepers would set up stalls where several varieties of honey, bee hives and beekeeping equipment would be on display. University students would also put up stalls, sources added.

Organisers have urged farmers and members of the public to participate in the celebrations, interact with scientists and beekeepers to know more about the bees.

The programme would begin at 9 a.m. and end at 5 p.m. Entry is free.
