Transexuals launch campaign demanding recognition

A signature campaign was launched by the members of the transgender community in Gandhipuram, Coimbatore demanding that the government recognize them as the third gender as per the orders of the Supreme Court.

Talking to the media, Sangeetha, the leader of the committee said, “Last year, the Supreme Court had ordered the government to accept us as a third gender and give special reservations for us. Until now the central government did not take any steps to implement this order.”

She also requested that their gender should be included in all the official documents and three percent reservation be given to them.

The campaign attracted many supporters who took part in the signature campaign.
