Tremendous changes will happen in the IT field and also in academic systems in another five years, a senior official in the National Mission on Education Through ICT, under the Union HRD Ministry, said today.
Policing approach in education systems may be slowly stopped and replaced by direct online practical based examinations and analytical tests, Mission Project Manager and Training Coordinator Mohammed Kasim Khan said.
He was addressing students of Sri Krishna College of Engineering and Technology here after signing an MoU for the Spoken Tutorial Programme of IIT Bombay with Sri Krishna Institutions.
Stating that the present assignments may be given as projects and these systems helped to improve the employable skills of students, Khan pointed out the importance of the IIT Spoken Tutorial Programme, saying that it was a successful IT/Software training programme covering wide varieties of open source software that are used by the top companies in their applications.
Many universities and colleges in India now are collaborating with IIT’s Spoken Tutorial Programme for this and have included it in their syllabus, as the programme has about 115 affiliated universities and colleges as knowledge partners, he said.
Now Sri Krishna Institutions has also been declared as South India Knowledge Hub by the Spoken Tutorial Programme of IIT Bombay, which is promoting and conducting the training on open source software to college and university students, he announced.
As of now 28 lakh students were trained across India by the Ministry through this free of cost, he said.
Stating that open source software was now used by many organisations, he said that the Ministry has taken various steps to make open source software available to the public and the Central Government has adopted strategies to use open source software on its websites as it has more confidentiality and security.
A recent MHRD report revealed that only 26 per cent of students got immediate placements after completing their degrees, and 9 per cent of rural students know how to prepare and type their resumes, Khan said, adding that this has to be improved further.
Dr. K. Sundararaman, CEO of Sri Krishna Institutions, presided over the programme and explained the purpose of the Spoken Tutorial Programme.
Sri Krishna Arts and Science College also conducted the regional level meeting for the coordinators of the Spoken Tutorial Programmes of various colleges.
