Every year the first week of July is celebrated as the National Forest Festival or Van Mahotsav to create environmental awareness across India and encourage people to plant trees. Celebrating this festival, Cauvery Calling has enabled farmers to plant 1.61 lakh saplings in their lands in a single week across Tamil Nadu. The tree-sapling planting events in agricultural lands kicked-off on 1st July across Tamil Nadu.

Cauvery Calling is a movement that has germinated from a seed that was planted by Sadhguru 25 years ago. The movement aims to rejuvenate the Cauvery river and improve the economy of farmers who depend on it by enabling the planting of 242 crore trees in the farmers’ lands in the states of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

As a part of the movement, Isha is providing 18 species of valuable timber trees produced at Isha nurseries to the farmers at a subsidized price of Rs 3. The list of valuable timber trees include- Teak, Red Sandalwood, Rosewood, Mahogany, Blackwood.

In addition to the Van Mahotsav, Cauvery Calling undertakes plantation drives on special days like World Environment Day, Gandhi Jayanti, River Rejuvenation Day. Plantation drives on Nammalwar Ayya Memorial Day, Nel Jayaraman Ayya Memorial Day, and Maram Thangasamy Ayya Memorial Day serve as a tribute to these stalwarts who supported and guided various environmental activities of Isha from the very beginning.

Last year, Cauvery Calling enabled the planting of over 1 cr trees across Tamil Nadu. Building upon it, the movement aims to plant over 1.1 crore trees this year in the state. Since 2004, Isha has facilitated the planting of 8.85 crore saplings across Tamil Nadu.
