The white coat ceremony for the newly joined 2024 batch of MBBS was held on 25.10.2024 at the PSG IMS&R auditorium.
The Principal of the institute, Dr TM Subbarao welcomed the students, their parents and families to this special occasion. He said this event marks the beginning of a significant journey as the new medicos embark on their path in the field of Medicine.
Dr K Deepalakshmi, coordinator of the Foundation Course read a detailed report of the Foundation Course which was imparted to the new medicos since the past two weeks. The intent of this course is to introduce the Academic Environment, Skill Development, preparing students for the mental and emotional challenges of medical training, bridging gaps by providing a fundamental understanding of essential subjects and learning on the values, ethics, and expectations of the medical profession.
The white coats were handed over by some of the senior professors of the Institute who have been in service for more than 25 years. They are Dr J S Bhuvaneshwaran (Professor of Cardiology), Dr Appalaraju (Professor of Microbiology), Dr Dinakar Rai (Professor of Orthopaedics), Dr Prem Kumar and Dr Vimal Kumar (Professors of Surgery), Dr T V Chitra (Professor of Obstetrics & and Gynaecology), Dr Bhuvaneswari (Professor of Pharmacology), Dr Sujaya Menon (Professor of Medicine) and Dr Reena Rai (Professor of Dermatology). The senior professors not only handed over the white coats, but also blessed and wished the new medicos, a successful career.
Another Senior professor, Dr D Sundar, administered the Oath of Hippocrates.
The Chief Guest of the occasion was Dr T Balaji, Director of the PSG Institute of Oncology. During his address, he said “Today is an important milestone. You are now part of a proud tradition, and the journey you are about to begin will be both challenging and immensely rewarding. Medicine is a noble profession that demands not only knowledge and skill but also empathy and a deep commitment to serving humanity. The white coat you don today serves as a constant reminder of these values. At PSG IMS&R, you are joining an institution that has a long-standing legacy of excellence in medical education. As you begin this journey, remember that you are not alone. Your professors, mentors, and peers are here to support you. The friendships you build, the lessons you learn, and the experiences you have will shape you not only as doctors but as individuals. I would also like to remind you that medicine is not just a career—it is a calling.”
Dr S Shanthakumari, Professor of Pathology, delivered the Vote of Thanks.
