Wife files dowry harassment complaint against actor Krishna

Following complaints of dowry harassment from his wife, actor Krishna is being investigated by the Coimbatore police.

Krishna, who has starred in films including ‘Alibaba’ and ‘Kazhugu,’ got married to Hemalatha, a native of Pethikudai, near Mettupalayam, Coimbatore, about a year and half ago. Hemalatha has filed a complaint with the police that Krishna was harassing her for dowry. In the complaint filed at the All Women’s Police Station at Thudiyalur,, she has also named his mother, Madhubala, and father, Gunashekaran.

In the complaint, she has alleged that Krishna’s parents had demanded 300 sovereigns of gold and Rs.32 lakhs in dowry. Her family had agreed to their demands. At the time of the marriage, they had given her 118 sovereigns of gold and Rs.35 lakhs in cash. Hemalatha has said in her complaint that her in-laws and husband were torturing her for the remaining gold.

She has also alleged that her husband harasses her and compels her to wear western costumes. She has stated that he was involved with other women. The police have registered cases against Krishna and his parents under various sections, including the Dowry Prohibition Act.

The police have informed that three persons, including Krishna, have been summoned for investigations. Further actions will be taken based on the findings

Krishna had filed for divorce from his wife a few months ago.
