Kangana Ranaut’s directorial debut Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi might have stirred up numerous controversies, but that doesn’t seem to have affected its run at the box office. The film is galloping towards the Rs 100-crore club as fans continue to throng theatres to catch a glimpse of this ambitious historical drama.

The film, which crossed the Rs 50-crore mark within five days of its release, now stands at Rs 91.70 crore.

Despite stiff competition from Sonam Kapoor and Anil Kapoor’s Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga, the film is still holding its own at the box office.

However, Manikarnika became a victim to piracy, as it was leaked online by infamous piracy website TamilRockers. With Manikarnika: The Queen Of Jhansi being made available for free downloads.

Manikarnika: The Queen Of Jhansi revolves around Rani Laxmibai, who fought against the East India Company and the British to prevent her kingdom of Jhansi from being usurped. Critics have unanimously hailed Kangana Ranaut’s portrayal of the warrior queen, although the film itself has received mixed reviews.

Manikarnika: The Queen Of Jhansi marks Kangana’s foray into direction. She took over the reins from Krish, who was originally meant to be the solo director. However, this has caused enough furore after the release of the film. Krish has accused Kangana of modifying the script. He claimed in an explosive interview that she “wanted everything to herself” and “blatantly reduced” the length of her co-stars’ parts. The actress lashed out saying that people are trying to destroy the film.
