Kings XI give Sunrisers first shock

Sunrisers Hyderabad tasted their first defeat of the season when Kings XI Punjab scored 15 more runs at the IS Bindra Punjab cricket Association stadium in Mohali. This was also a maiden victory at home for the Punjab team which had lost their previous five encounters against the same opposition.

Sunrisers which was expected to win easily could manage only 178/4 in 20 overs. Earlier, n Kings XI won the toss opted to bat. Starting on a cautious note with KL Rahul and Gayle stitching a 53-run partnership before the rampage. Gayle dominated in the first half scoring 103 of 63 balls with 11 sixes and a four lighting up Mohali in flames. Gayle’s hundred was the first of this season.

Sunrisers were set a target of 194 but the start was not good with the explosive Shikhar Dhawan getting injured after facing just one delivery.. Opener Wriddhiman Saha got out to Mohit Sharma scoring just 6 runs. Hard hitting batsman Yusuf Pathan who joined Williamson could manage only 19 from 13 before being bowled by Mohit. It was then Kane Williamson and Manish Pandey who scored 76 valuable runs for the third wicket by the end of 10th over. Both the batsmen scored half centuries before Williamson got out in the 15th over with the scoreboard at 113-3.

It was then Shakib Al Hasan who scored a quick 24 off just 12 deliveries. But it was all over with Kings XI having the last laugh.

Chris Gayle was adjudged Man of the Match for his splendid batting performance. Except R. Ashwin and Mohit Sharma all other bowlers of kings XI had a reasonably good outing with the most economical being Barinder Sran giving away just 22 in his four-over spelll without picking up a wicket.
