The two-day coconut festival, jointly organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry and Coconut Development Board, began here on Saturday at CODISSIA Grounds.
Participating in the inaugural ceremony, Vice-Chancellor of Tamil Nadu Agriculture University K. Ramaswamy said more such festivals should be organised for the benefit of farmers. “Earlier people in the villages used to offer coconuts to the Gods every Friday. As a result, all the coconuts will hit the markets immediately after harvest. But the situation is totally different now,” he said.
