“Vesko Theesko” ritual as part of Vijayadasami celebrations

As part of the Vijayadhasami celebrations, the traditional festival where children and adults slash their arms and torso with knives, was organised by the Telugu Devanga Chettiyar community in Coimbatore. Almost 500 people from the community participated in the fest. The grand procession started from the Sukravar pettai to the Sowdambika temple at the five corner via Raja street. “This fest is being celebrated every year on the occasion of Vijayadhasami” said the patron of the Sowdambigai Temple P.Balu. The young men of the community actively take part in the fest.
