8-month-old raped by 28-year-old cousin, accused booked under POCSO

An eight-month-old girl was sexually assaulted by her 28-year-old cousin in northwest Delhi on Sunday afternoon, said police.
The baby suffered severe injuries in her private parts and vital organs. She is undergoing treatment at Kalawati Saran Hospital in New Delhi.
According to police, both her parents were at work during the time of the incident and had left the infant at home in the care of other family members.
The accused, Suraj, is child’s cousin and took her to another part of the building on the pretext of playing with her. Later, when the child’s mother — who works as a maid in nearby locality — returned home, she found the child in a pool of blood.
She immediately rushed her to the hospital.
“During preliminary investigation, Suraj was found to be the prime suspect, who had fled from home after the incident.
He was later traced and arrested.
“The accused has been booked under relevant section of POCSO,” said Aslam Khan, DCP (northwest).
